Blackwood Labs offer high flexibility in their testing services. Our scope of accreditation covers a wide range of products from small domestic appliances to video conference systems and large multiplayer gaming machines. Access to our laboratory for large equipment is easily achieved through large roller doors taking your product from the delivery lorry into the testing area.

For EMC testing we offer a choice of two forms of testing:

Accredited Full Compliance Testing

If you need to demonstrate that a product is fully compliant with a test standard then full compliance testing is the option for you.

Full compliance testing is application all of the tests required for your product through application of the applicable standard(s). The testing is charged after consideration of the product against the test standards. Accredited test reports and test certificates are provided at no extra charge.

Should we have issues with any particular test during compliance testing then we are able to pause the compliance test and work to resolve those issues. Testing can then be resumed once a fix has been established. If needed we can revert to pre-compliance testing at pre-compliance testing rates.

Pre-compliance Testing

If you need to assess a product in its early stages of development or if you are concerned about a particular test as opposed to the full suite of tests then pre-compliance testing is the option for you.

This testing is charged on a time basis and as such it offers high flexibility in that, for example, we can either perform 10 tests on one product or put 10 products through 1 test. With our extensive experience we can suggest and apply the most onerous tests for your product and you can take advantage of our ability to resolve any issues identified.

The pre-compliance testing service uses the same calibrated equipment as the full compliance testing and test slots are booked in multiples of half-days.

Examples of the types of products covered by our EMC services:

  • Information Technology Equipment
  • Analogue & Digital Telecommunication Terminal Equipment
  • Industrial Control Equipment
  • Laboratory Equipment
  • Gaming Machines
  • Domestic Appliances
  • Other commercial products

The new EMC Directive, 2004/108/EC, became applicable on Friday 20th July 2007. Compliance with the old EMC Directive, 89/336/EC, after 20th July 2009 is no longer acceptable.

In order to understand your obligations under the new EMC Directive contact John Davies.

Achieving EMC compliance couldn't be simpler with Blackwood Compliance Laboratories. Our facilities and expertise can help steer your product through the minefield of EMC compliance efficiently and thoroughly.

We offer pre-compliance EMC testing where we can provide a profile of your product against the standard through to accredited full compliance EMC testing. For more information on the services offered click here

Through various international agreements our EMC test reports are accepted in nearly 100 countries covering the entire developed world.

Blackwood Labs have UKAS accreditation (No 2667) for a wide range of EMC test and standards. Of particular interest is the UKAS accreditation for Annex A of EN 55024 and CISPR 24 regarding analogue and digital telecoms equipment. There are only two or three laboratories that offer this test as UKAS accredited and Blackwood Labs have the most efficient test system in ATLANTIS (Automated Telecommunication Line and Acoustic Noise Test Instrumentation System) which was designed and built at Blackwood Labs.

We are also an appointed European Notified Body (NB 1902) for current EMC Directive 2004/108/EC.
